Purley mains replacement

We recently completed laying a new water main in your area, and now we need to return to turn off the old main and disconnect it from our network.

We’ll be working under a full road closure of The Bridle Road from Monday 1 to Friday 12 August for the safety of the public and our workforce.

An alternative route has been agreed with the local highway authority, which will run down Peaks Hill and Peaks Hill Rise.

We’re sorry for any disruption caused by this essential work.

Start date: 24 May 2021 

End date: May 2022

The Bridle Road closure will start on Monday 24 May 2021 and will last until the end of November 2021. This will run concurrently with the works on Russell Hill, when temporary traffic lights will be in place from Monday 26 July 2021 through to May 2022.

Working hours:  When possible, our delivery partner Clancy  will be working 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday. However, these hours may vary depending on weather conditions, daylight and to staff availability. If off peak or weekend working is required, we will update this section of the web page.

 

Due to the location of the existing water main, and a number of other utilities already in the ground, for most of the schemes we will need to work in the public highway. To keep residents, motorists and our workforce safe we have to put traffic management systems in place. 

To allow us to carry out this work we will need to close The Bridle Road and put a diversion route in place. The work in Russell Hill will not require a full road closure but temporary traffic lights will be in place. This will also include the use of multiway signals at junctions that may affect travelling times. We will maintain access for residents, deliveries and emergency vehicles.

Road closures are used when we are unable to provide the required legal distances around our works. When this is the case the road will be closed in 100 to 150 metre sections at a time and within these sections the road will be fully reinstated before we move on to the next phase.

All traffic management arrangements and diversion routes will be advertised on this page and information boards will be visible in the affected areas prior to any traffic management being implemented.
