In August 2021, we paused our plans to replace old water mains on the B2027 Tonbridge Road in and around Chiddingstone, following concerns raised by local people about the disruption caused by the road closure.
Since then, we have been exploring how we can lay a new water main without having to completely close the road.
We have now completed digging trial holes to find out exactly where other utility service pipes are already in place.
We propose to start the water mains replacement in February 2022 and will update this page with more details in due course. While we replace these mains, we will need to put in place more temporary traffic management arrangements including speed limit restrictions and, in some instances where road widths are very narrow, a traffic marshalling system. This will cause some congestion along the road but we will do all we can to keep traffic moving, including manually controlling the traffic lights during peak travel times.
We continue to liaise closely with Kent County Council to minimise the impact this major scheme will have on the local community. We are also keen to hear your views on the most suitable time for us to complete the essential mains replacement work in 2022. You can take part in an online discussion forum on our dedicated website or you can call our Customer Services Operations team on: 01737 772000 Option 2.
We would like to apologise for the significant concerns our initial scheme caused and want to assure you we will keep the disruption caused to the local community to a minimum.
