SES Water partners with local charities to give back to the community this Christmas

12/12/23

SES Water has partnered with several local charities across its supply area during the past month to help bring some festive cheer to those needing extra care in the community.

As part of the water company’s wider community partnership programme, its colleagues have been volunteering their time as part of a ‘Give A Day’ scheme, whereby they each support a local charity for one day a year.

In the past month SES Water volunteers have helped to:

  • Clear undergrowth and weeds for new trees to grow at The Wildlife Aid Foundation in Leatherhead
  • Help to wrap presents at Santa’s Stork, the HQ of Stripey Stork, a Surrey based baby bank that collects donations of clothes, toys and essential items for babies and children
  • Deliver Christmas presents to local family and youth centres on behalf of Stripey Stork
  • Work with the Community Hubs Sutton and Sutton Primary Care Networks to cook and provide a Christmas lunch for 37 carers in the community
  • Accompany nine members of the local MHA charity to do their Christmas shopping in the Belfry shopping centre, Redhill. MHA is the largest charity care provider for older people in the UK.
  • Collect money for Crossroads Care Surrey – a charity which provides support for unpaid carers - through a festive fundraising event in Banstead

In addition, SES Water is also collecting items for Christmas hampers to give to some of its customers most in need of extra support at this time of year.

SES Water Chief Executive Officer, Ian Cain, said:

“We feel privileged to help our local charity partners spread a bit of joy to the community at Christmas, especially when this time of year can be a struggle for many. We’re here for our customers and, beyond delivering a high-quality water supply, it’s important for us to give something back and help improve lives.”

MHA Community Co-ordinator, Heather Shaw, said:

“Thank you so much for your support, our members had the best time and couldn’t wait to let all the other members know what a fabulous time they had. Thank you so much to all of you and we look forward to the next one.”

The Wildlife Aid Foundation, Centre Manager, Douglas Anderson, said:

“Thanks again for all the help last week with the work on the new site. I hope the team enjoyed it as much as they appeared to! You all did a fantastic job, and I’m genuinely impressed with how much the few of you managed to get done!”
