SES Water customers are saving more than 675000 litres of water per day
SES Water is thanking its customers for saving more than 675,000 litres of water per day, through a combination of plumbing repairs, water efficiency visits and water saving devices.
In the past year a total of 303 leaks have been reported by customers and 2,471 people have registered for GetWaterFit – the Company’s online platform, which helps each household to see how much water it uses and where savings can be made.
Compared to the previous year, the amount of water saved by SES Water customers has increased by more than 525,000 litres per day, following a focused effort to support homes and businesses across the supply area with water efficiency audits.
As a result of these visits more than 660 plumbing repairs have been made and 4,885 water saving devices have been fitted in customer homes.
SES Water's supply area is defined as being under serious water stress by the Environment Agency, as is the whole of the south east. The Company faces a growing population while also aiming to leave more water in the environment as part of its climate adaptation plan.
As set out in its business plan for 2025 – 2030 the Company has ambitious investment plans to reduce water wastage and will be investing £10.5 million during that period to drive down leakage, enhance its smart network and utilise its asset health innovation to better target water mains most in need of replacement.
The Company has also expanded its community engagement programme in the past year, reaching 100,000 customers at local events and giving away more than 2,600 water saving devices.
SES Water continues to donate funds towards water efficiency projects being run by local non-profit groups and has funded six projects with a total of £6,500 in the year to date. These projects have included installing water butts in both The Land and City Families Trust and Surrey Care Trust community gardens, as well as funding to create more rainwater storage at South Nutfield Cricket Club.
Furthermore, the Company is playing its part in tackling leakage finding and fixing 2,384 leaks across its network so far this year. SES Water has one of the best track records in the industry for reducing leakage and keeping levels low. However, it can only achieve its environmental ambitions by working in partnership with its customers to reduce the demand for water.
The latest findings are being shared ahead of the upcoming winter months when it’s important customers prepare their homes for the colder temperatures, which can cause pipes to freeze and burst.
By taking simple actions such as fixing dripping taps and making sure water tanks and pipes in unheated areas like loft spaces and garages are well insulated, this can help make sure your house is winterproof. SES Water’s Sustainability Manager, Grace Wood-Lofthouse, said:
“It’s great to see just how much water is being saved by our customers each and every day. Every drop really does count and together makes impactful change on our environment. We want to thank every one of our customers who is playing their part to use water more wisely - if we all save a little, together we save a lot.
“It’s also important to remember to get your house ready for winter and wrap up your pipes, particularly those that are fully exposed to the elements. Running pipes creates so much wasted water and a burst pipe in your property can leave homes without water but also with a hefty bill to repair the damage.”
